My hometown, Minneapolis, made it onto Rolling Stone’s list of “Schools That Rock.”
For those of us who shuttled between the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood and the West Bank day after day, there’s nothing in this blurb that we don’t know already. Note that two mentions are missing important information: Let It Be records is closing (and with it, it takes a part of my heart and 40 percent of all college-era paychecks). Also, the description of the local radio market conspicuously leaves out MPR’s The Current while highlighting Radio K and KFAI — either because the writer has some kind of preference for the smaller non-coms or (more likely) he or she reported this one from the Minneapolis suburb known as New York.
Still, a nice mention with lots of other great cites. But Minneapolis was beat by Nashville? Seriously?
The official lineup:
1. SEATTLE
2. CHAPEL HILL/RALEIGH/DURHAM, NC
3. DETROIT
4. AUSTIN
5. NASHVILLE (Give me a break. Really? Nashville?)
6. ST. LOUIS
7. SAN FRANCISCO
8. ATHENS, GA
9. MINNEAPOLIS
10. PORTLAND, OR
