Journo Student to Roger Ailes: U.S.A. All the Way!

December 20th, 2004

Your humble editor was intrigued by comments made by Fox News Channel chairman and CEO Roger Ailes on the state of U.S. journalism schools. (Disclosure: I rock the mic at Columbia University’s fine institution.) Speaking on C-SPAN’s “Q&A” program, Ailes said he has been reluctant to donate to journalism schools.

“I was asked by a university to give them some money,” Ailes said. “I went to the university and I taught a couple of classes and I interviewed a bunch of students and I said, Im not going to give you any money until you can graduate somebody who likes America. Its not a bad country, you know. And I said, As soon as you get me someone like that, Ill give you some money.”

Look no further, Mr. Ailes! You’ve found your man. I, Joel Meyer, class of 2005, like America. In fact, I like America even more than I did when I enrolled. So, please use the link at the left of this page to contact me and make your charitable donation. (I will forward your funds directly to America–and its educational loan program, which helped make journalism school possible for me. ) Thanks, Mr. Ailes!
